Photography Student of The Year

Olivia Fleet, a senior, won photography student of the year. She has always wanted photography to be apart of her life.

“When i was younger I wanted to work for national geographic. But now i know no matter what i do i’ll always be taking photos, have a camera on me at all times, usually two or three. I love capturing moments.” Fleet says.

Fleet gets her inspiration from a lot of photos she sees on Twitter or Instagram. When she likes the pose or the lighting or even the message behind the idea she takes on aspect of it at creates her own image. Also in her photo class they’re always bouncing ideas off of eachother. The people at her table are always showing each other their photos for help. They talk about ideas and make them better and also work on editing together. Then when you when they take the project up to Drabant he will call up other people and ask them what else we can do to it to make it better.

“I really love portraits, that’s always been my favorite,” she says, “so when i see someone and the setting is just right or the sun is hitting them perfectly, i’ll snap a picture and then use that as a reference for a project.”

The best time she thinks to take pictures really depends on the weather. Taking pictures on on cloudy days are good because the sun isn’t too harsh, but if you want specific lighting, the sunrise or sunset is usually awesome for warm colors.

One of her favorite pictures is her ghost photo with the sheet, but she also really likes the one with her friend Lila.

“If it was a lot of fun to work on the project, then i could say it’s one of my favorites,” Says fleet, “like last year when i did a  project where i took an entire living room set up and moved it around, in my backyard, in the middle of the street, and in the parking lot at Kroger. It was so much fun with the people and moving the set up around.”

Olivia plans on continuing photography for the rest of her life.
