Fraser Wrestling Repeats as MAC Blue Champs

Thursday’s dual meet marked the final one of the year for the Ramblers. This was a four team meet between Fraser, Sterling Heights Stevenson, Utica, and L’Anse Creuse North.

In the first round, Stevenson overcame a small deficit to beat the Utica Chieftains. While the Ramblers trounced a L’Anse Creuse North team who were missing wrestlers at multiple weight classes. They beat the Crusaders by a score of 78-3 and helped some of the wrestlers get a bye because of L’Anse Creuse’s lack of wrestlers. A bye is when a wrestler or wrestlers do not have to wrestle because they are either the top ranked seed in a meet/tournament or the team they are versing has no wrestler at their weight class. Getting the bye definitely helped the guys because they looked refreshed and energized I the championship match.  The win moved Fraser into the MAC Blue championship against the Titans. This was their second straight year under coach Rick Julien that they made it to the championship.

After the match, coach Rick Julien praised his freshmen Josh Brady (112), Jaylon Smith (125), and Chris Hackney (215) for helping be an instrumental part of the team’s success this year.

Another milestone occurred that night, as junior Nathan Hollified got his 100th career win as a varsity wrestler for the Ramblers. The Ramblers will now prepare for next weekend’s individuals at Districts. The road to state champ continues for many of the Ramblers.
