The Drama is the latest movie directed by norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli. The reason why many people were interested in this movie was because of the cast, specifically Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. Another reason was the very minimal marketing which told you basically nothing about the movie which was one of the smartest marketing moves for this film, building intrigue on what this film is and by saving the mouth dropping catalyst for the film for the viewing experience.
Anyway, this movie is about a couple a week away from their wedding when a wild turn happens. Which is the non spoiler version, because its hard to say what this movie is about without ruining the viewing experience. I can say the ideas in this movie are really well executed however, ideas like how well do you really know someone. And the ideas are executed really well due to the writing and the performances and the editing. The writing is keeps some of the ideas in this movie very heavy, not watering down this film at all. It also adds some really dark humor having you laugh in moments that feel inappropriate but you can’t help it.
I sometimes forget how good of an actress Zendaya is and this movie reminded me. I also thought Alana Haim was so annoying (in a good way) and I really enjoyed Robert Pattinson’s character. Back to Zendaya though, as her character makes the movie for me, not only was her acting great but the way that this movie uses flashbacks to make her character of Emma more complex. The editing of the movie complements the flashbacks well as Robert Pattinson’s character of Charlie’s paranoia is done with the editing and flashbacks and writing.
So overall, this movie is a wild ride. This is a movie with great acting and dark themes which is why I would give this movie a 4/5 and would tell you to watch it in theaters.
