This year was a record breaking season for the girl’s varsity basketball team. Last Tuesday Night (3/17) the Girls Varsity Basketball Team travelled to University of Detroit Mercy to face-off against the Eagles of Eisenhower HS in the MHSAA Quarterfinals. It has been 20 years since a Fraser Girls Basketball Team has made it this far in the tournament. The 2006 Team made it to the Championship game and were just inducted into the Fraser Athletic Hall of Fame.
The two schools played to move on to the Breslin Center at Michigan State University to compete for a State Championship. Fraser came back from 10 points down to even the score just before half time. The team entered the fourth quarter trailing by 1 point, but unfortunately fell behind. The team ended up losing the game by a score of 57-43. The entire team should be very proud of making it to 1 of 8 teams left in the Division 1 playoffs.
The girls gathered a significant amount of awards that will carry with them throughout their basketball career. They were MAC Blue division champions back-to-back. They also tied the record for most wins in school history with a season record of 26-3. They were 2026 MHSAA District and Regional Champions.

Individually, everyone performed great and have the awards to prove it. Seniors, Alaynah Quinn and Brynn Norbeck, both reached 1000+ career points to finish their high school career. Their received a significant amount of recognition in the MAC Blue. Quinn earned MAC Blue Division MVP. Norbeck, Nylah Bell, and Francesca Sines all earned 1st team all conference. Gabrielle Sabaugh earned all conference honorable mention. Their coach, Robert Fulgenzi, earned MAC Blue division coach of the year.
They girls also received all-county awards. Norbeck received 1st team all county with Quinn and Bell earning 2nd team all county. Bell also earned all county 1st team defense. Sines earned 4th team all county as well as 1st team defense. Fulgenzi earned all county co-coach of the year as well. Also, 13 out of the 14 girls earned MAC Conference All Academic Team Honors meaning they have above a 3.0 GPA.
The seniors, Michaela Chandler, Camilla Dawood, Ashley Jeter, Brynn Norbeck, Alaynah Quin, Francesca Sines, and Samantha Smith all have bright futures ahead of them, and they should be happy to end their Fraser basketball careers off on a good note.
All in all, it was a very successful season for the girls, and they should all be beyond proud of their accomplishments.
