Shelter is the latest Jason Statham action movie, directed by Ric Roman Waugh who is know for the Greenland franchise. I had no real expectations with this movie as you know what you’re getting with a movie with Jason Statham. It’s another hour and a half long movie where they get an excuse to have Jason to beat people up. Was this another fun movie?
In short, yes. This movie follows Jason Statham’s character of which, is an exmilitary assassin. He lives on an island and the boat that brings him supplies sinks and he has to take care of the captains niece, but things hit the fan when a program finds out who he his and has assassins trying to kill him. So also in short, this is just an average Jason Statham movie.
To start, the action in this movie is great. There’s a lot to enjoy if you like action, I personally really liked a kill in this movie with a flare. Bodhi Rae Breathnach is on an acting streak doing well in this and last year’s Hamnet, and she was the acting stand out in this movie. She has a strong career ahead of her. I liked how they set up the relationship of Statham’s character and Breathnach’s character, and how it plays out during the movie.
Now this movie does come with it’s issues, however it tends to be the same as every other action movie. The dialogue in this movie isn’t great, and I don’t care for how other relationships in this movie work, with actors not having the best chemistry. Also these characters are very lucky, not only in action scenes but also when they are trying to get from point A to point B with character interactions happening really fast and the main excuse being, “Remember the one thing I did for you that one time?”
Overall, this movie isn’t horrible. It’s a fun time at the movie theater but if you’re looking for a better movie, I would go with The Rip starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. I would give this movie a 3.5 as I enjoyed the movie, but there are other options.
