Not having released music since 2011, Adele makes a phenomenal comeback with her lead single “Hello” for her album 25. Released on October 23, “Hello” skyrockets, peaking at #1 in multiple countries, including the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Idolator, with a whopping 1.11 million downloads in the U.S. alone during the week of its release, “Hello” now holds the record for debut week sales, formerly held by Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” Furthermore, Adele’s single has had the biggest gain in digital sales, according to Billboard.

Beginning with single piano chords, “Hello” is a slow-moving, raw tune. Composed of mainly the piano, Adele’s sweet-sounding voice, and accompanying voices in the background, Adele illustrates the hurt she’s experiencing about a past relationship. After years have passed, she expresses her want to meet again and clear up everything between them, but she receives no reply. In the chorus, she sings, “Hello from the other side / I must’ve called a thousand times / To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done / But when I call, you never seem to be home.” Within these four minutes and fifty-five seconds, Adele’s stunning voice is showed off, especially in the chorus, as the piano accompanies her vocals.

Overall, in this emotion-filled song, Adele’s tangible passion is made evident. Though it is not an upbeat song, “Hello” is a recommended song to give a listen for Adele’s pure voice, its melody, and emotion.
