The Giving Tree

Emma Harris

According to Alliant Credit Union, “Americans spend on average about $1,047.83 on Christmas gifts a year”. There is no surprise that not everyone can afford that. Many families live in poverty, barely able to even pay to put food on the table. Although wanting to give their children presents under the tree. In Fraser High School, there is a program called “The Giving Tree” run by Stacy Kalpin, a staff member. Near the holidays, a Christmas tree is put up in the library with tags on the tree of things needed/ things they like. There was at first a message sent out to staff in the district for “adopting a child”, then to Fraser families. By 3 weeks, all of the children were “adopted”.
