All big name music artists start out somewhere. They start as amateurs and their talent will soon show whether they will survive in the competitive industry. A local entertainer is now experiencing this phase right now. Fraser High School student Austin “DJ Buzzy” Gizinski has been regularly releasing albums, collaborating with other local teenage artists. He has made money from his music on YouTube and iTunes through selling his music. His recent album “The Lightyear Experience” revs up the production value above his past ones. The first thing that caught my ear with this album is the instrumentals. For being amateur, these are pretty impressive. My expectations were low to begin with, but I was pleasantly surprised so far. Then we come to the next most important piece of the music: the vocals. Buzzy sounds as if he is swallowing the mic in the songs. It’s very unclear to what he is saying and that bogs down the listening experience. At times, the flow almost completely stopped and sounded like he was talking. For what was understood, the lyrical style was not so much focused on rhymes which made it harder still to listen to; In the song “Experience Obsolete: Outro” Buzzy drops the lines “This doesn’t mean that it’s over, over. There will be an obsolete, look it up if you don’t know what that word means.” As mentioned earlier, Buzzy features other artists of Fraser. My favorite track was “It’s My Time” had an almost angelic-sounding women singing her heart out. I was taken aback at the voice and how well produced this track seemed. About 45 seconds in, Buzzy busts some rhymes that honestly, made the song then unappealing. The whole persona the Buzzy character has is very reminiscent of artists like Biz Markee, or 2 Chainz, who are known for comedic value/content. However, some of the artists Buzzy features can “spit on the mic.” The single had to be my favorite part of my Buzzy experience. Buzzy’s part is just what we have come to expect, but he had a new artist featured named BZ. The song “Too Easy” starts with a flow that’s pretty hype in terms of instrumentals. I was VERY impressed with BZ because I just laughed out loud at what he was singing. Vulgar and comedy. He didn’t sound all that bad, either. I wouldn’t mind hearing more music similar to “Too Easy” mainly because it seems like they are self aware that what they’re singing is a little silly, and that comes through. The album itself is cheesy in many respects. The lyrics are bragging about cars and haters and the vocals are sub par. Instrumentals with flow save some of the music, though. The single itself was of a different /unique style which I feel has potential. The album and songs are available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and on his official website http://www.buzzy555.com/index.html another site is www.djbuzzyvevo.com
