The Michigan government is currently working to determine whether or not they will continue to fund free lunch for all K-12 students in the state. This has been the case since the 2023-2024 school year, but a new budget proposal considers dropping this benefit.
Governor Whitmer is standing strong in her push to keep free lunches for all students.
An agreement is supposed to be reached by today, September 30th. If a public decision is not released, some schools may choose to revert back to the free/ reduced lunch program for only certain students.
The state government will eventually have to come to a conclusion and confront the public with their choice.
