The Strangers Chapter 2 is the newest movie in this Strangers trilogy, directed by Renny Harlin. He is a fan favorite director known for movies such as Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Die Hard 2 and The Long Kiss Goodnight. Now while the first movie in this trilogy was absolutely horrible, us horror fans had hope that they had to get the remake out of the way so Renny Harlin could do what he wanted to do with this franchise, to the point where Renny Harlin said that this movie is “More epic” and he was also disappointed with the first movie… I think he’s disappointed with the whole trilogy.
This movie takes place after the first, where we see Maya in the hospital and the strangers try to finish her off. This has been done with Halloween 2 back in 1981 and has probably been done best in that movie. So, the idea wasn’t horrible because Halloween 2 is a pretty good movie and is one of the best in the Halloween franchise.
Strating with the positives, there are basically none, so we’ll go with the negatives. One of the selling points of the strangers and the big reason why it has a fan base, is because you’re not supposed to know, you are not supposed to know who the strangers are, or why they do what they do. This movie undoes all of that. It tells you who two out of the three strangers are, and they tell you who Tamara is and start to tell you the backstory of the strangers, which is the complete opposite of what this franchise goes for. Even if you don’t care about that, the acting isn’t good, the paranoia thing they go for is done pretty bad, as ten to fifteen minutes of this movie is just shots of Madelaine Petsch’s eyes.
Continuing, why is this movie rated R? us horror fans can forgive a bad movie as long as the carnage candy is good, and this movie has none. It makes me question if the only reason why this movie is rated R, is due to the swearing. If they cut out some of the swearing it could 100% be a PG-13 movie. The blood you do see looks like CGI though. *SPOILER* The most carnage we get in this movie is when the strangers sends out a boar to kill maya. Which is very odd and makes no sense. *SPOILER OVER* Surprisingly Maya isn’t the only one who makes bad choices in this movie because the strangers do it too. This movie constantly makes you ask, “there’s no way this could get worse” and ten minutes later, it shows you that it can.
Overall, this movie is really not good, and I hope you save your money. I would not recommend this to anyone and am giving this movie a 0/5, due to the movie being not good on its own and just completely missing the idea of the franchise.
