Final Destination Bloodlines is the latest movie in the Final Destination franchise, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. This is a franchise known for being consistently solid and so that’s why I wanted to see this entry. I will say the second movie is the only one in this franchise I love (a movie I love is a 4/5 or higher) and I wanted to know if this can be the best Final Destination movie.
So Final Destination Bloodlines is about a couple that cheats death and has a family that was never supposed to happen. When their grandma (The one who cheats death) dies death comes after them one by one. This concept really interested me as the question of what if someone who cheated death had a family after, is a great one to be had and I think they executed it well.
Starting with the positives, Tony Todd’s final performance is an emotional one and for most will bring a tear to their eye (rest in peace Tony Todd). While they will never top the log truck in the second movie, the carnage candy (kills) are done really well. The effects used are top notch and look amazing which really help the kills look great. The comedy of this movie is natural and can give for a good laugh (sometimes done with kills). I also like the characters as some feel really different from others, making it so you’ll at least come out loving a new character.
With the mixed, I’m someone who doesn’t like fan service in movies, so with the many times they show logs, or log trucks, or even references to kills done earlier in the franchise, I’m not a huge fan. However, this movie doesn’t rely on it like movies such as Deadpool and Wolverine or Spider-man No Way Home making me not as negative on it, putting it in the mixed. I also liked how they made Death bigger and bader in this movie, but I didn’t like how they forgot some of the rules in the first one, being that if someone cheats death, that he (or she) will skip you and come back for you later.
Overall, Final Destination Bloodlines is a nice addition to the franchise, giving me my personal favorite. I will give this movie a 4.5/5 as it was a fun time at the theater and I can’t wait to rewatch it. I recommend you go to see this if you’re a horror fan and just want to have a fun time watching horror.
