Drop Is the latest movie from modern horror director, Christopher Landon. Christopher Landon is known for directing Happy Death Day and Freaky both of which, I really enjoy. While the trailers and idea of this movie wasn’t selling me, it was the director attached that gave me hope that Drop would be good. Maybe I put too much faith in this director.
Drop is a movie about a widow who goes on a date in the first time in a while. On her date she gets airdrops on her phone that tell her to kill her date, or her son dies. Again, I wasn’t sold on the concept of this movie and mainly because it felt like Christopher Landon’s version of 2024’s Trap from M. Night Shyamalan. Which is a movie I didn’t care for.
To start with the positives, the camera person needs a raise. The camera shots were phenomenal with every shot looking great. I also thought when the drops showed on screen through CGI text, they did that really well as it complemented the camera shots in a great way. I also enjoyed Reed Diamond in his role as Richard as I felt like he was the best character in the movie.
Now we’re gonna go to what I’m mixed on. This movie REALLY needs you to suspend your disbelief, as the main character goes to the bathroom like 3 different times. If any normal person was in that situation they would’ve left after the second time. So, if you can suspend your disbelief, you might love this, however it depends on my mood if I can or not.
For the negatives, other than Reed Diamond, I didn’t care for any of the characters and didn’t think the acting was all that great. I also thought the motive behind the drops were not great either as you do find out who the killer is.
Overall, Christopher Landon didn’t save the movie, in my opinion. I think a lot of people could have fun with this and with a rewatch I could either like it more or dislike it more. I’ll give this movie a 2.5/5, right in the middle like how I feel about this movie.
