Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania directed by Peyton Reed is the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the final movie in the Ant-Man trilogy. This movie introduces the new big bad of the MCU, Kang the Conqueror, and attempts to complete the Ant-Man character arc within the trilogy itself. This movie set out to accomplish a lot, and while the Ant-Man development fell short slightly, the introduction of Kang sets this movie as a must see for marvel fans.

Those who have watched the Loki series, are familiar with Jonathan Majors’s portrayal of He Who Remains; however this movie introduces a multiversal variant to this character– Kang. Without Thanos, the MCU no longer has a big overarching villain, until now, as Kang is going to be filling that void. Let me just say that this character is by far the best marvel villain we have ever gotten. Majors steals the screen every time and makes this movie what it is. He is terrifying, overpowered, and provides a nice dark contrast to the usual lighthearted nature of the Ant-Man franchise.

The other thing that makes this movie unique is the world building and design. The quantum realm in this film is beautifully made, with captivating creature designs and gravity defying logic ecosystems. The vibrant colors and really intricate environment really help immerse you into this new world. This movie has been referred to as if Marvel did a Star Wars movie, and I agree with this comparison down to alien-like creatures and spaceships. The new worlds brought into light were highly entertaining and the visual effects really help to bring this movie to life.

The Ant-Man movies are known for their humor, and this movie falls short of the expectation. While there were a few laugh out loud moments within this movie and Paul Rudd’s comedic timing was on point. This movie relies more on visual gags and cheesier jokes to get laughs, and I’m not sure how well it worked for this movie.

Aside from all the positives of this movie there were three things I disliked about it. One, was the choice not to include the character of Luis and the rest of Scott’s friends. These are staples of the Ant-Man franchise and it felt weird without them in it. The second thing that could have been better in this movie was the Wasp. Her arc in this movie consisted mostly of listening to her parents and aside from a few cool action scenes, it felt like she didn’t do much to drive the plot. Finally, the use of the character of M.O.D.O.K. could have been better. The only times it feels like he was included was for comedic effect. In the comic books, he is a very powerful and intelligent character, and it feels like that was all washed down the drain.

Overall, this movie was fun. From the comedy, to the great visual effects, to quite literally the best Marvel villain as of yet this movie is pretty cool. I would rate it a 3/5 and would recommend it to Marvel fans.
