Wednesday, January 17^th was a big day for FHS’ art department. Numerous students from various grades participated in what is known as The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, which if you’re not aware, is a very prestigious art program that awards students all over the country with college scholarships for their work. This year FHS Artists had 40 pieces selected for the Thumb Region of Scholastics Art and Writing Awards.

This year Art Students from Macomb, Lapeer, Huron, Sanilac, and St. Clair counties submitted 2,200 individual pieces into the show and 68 portfolios. Of the 2,200 pieces only 562 were selected to be part of the show, 252 were given Honorable Mentions, 180 earned Silver Keys, and 130 received Gold Keys.  There were also 38 Senior Portfolios selected as Gold Key Portfolios – FHS had four of those.  All Gold Key works, both individual and portfolios, will now be sent on the New York for National Judging – those awards will be announced in March with a National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in Early June.
