Diving into a new season, the girls’ varsity swim team is off to a good start.

On September 7th, Fraser High School’s girls varsity swim team competed against Chippewa Valley. They may have lost their first meet; however, some of the girls swam their best times.

Alongside their first meet, they also had an invitational meet the next day.

September 8th is when seven invited teams came out to compete for the annual relay meet at Warren Woods Tower, known as the Titan Relays.

The Fraser Girls’ proudly took first overall.

According to one of the senior team captains, Alexandra Gibson, feels like this is her year to shine.

In a short interview, Alexandra was asked how she felt when looked up at the board to see her personal best time at the Titan Relays, “I swam a 1:20:19 I think, I felt accomplished in what I swam and it gave me the determination to do better next time.”

Thanks to the help from Alexandra, the rest of the team has gained great amounts of determination and confidence throughout the season so far.

As a senior, she plans to attend Evangel University, but is unsure if she will continue swimming for college.

Likewise, another senior team captain, Kristina Rice, has broken multiple varsity times throughout her three years of being on the team.

In a similar interview, we asked Kristina how she thought the Titan Relays went, β€œIt was fun to get in the pool and race for the first time of the season. I was super proud that our team took first.”

So far, this season Kristina, along with other girls, has qualified for the County meet in a few events.

As this is her final year of swimming for Fraser High School, she plans to train harder every day, so she can swim competitively in college.

When asked what college she hoped to attend, she replied with, β€œI have spoken to a few college coaches, but I have my eye of Calvin College.”

As the season is wrapping up, the girls continue to advance in their training. Every day is an opportunity for the school to wish them luck, as they continue to carry out a successful season.
