As the school year begins and summer comes to a close, students begin to hear about the sports teams and their games/meets. Little do some people know, most of the fall sports teams have been practicing since the middle of summer. They train and prepare for their matches to begin, all while trying to enjoy their summer. The boys tennis team is a prime example of this, and they are separated into JV and Varsity. The boys that participate in tennis are very hard-workers; however, they can often be ridiculed due to the lack of knowledge on the sport.

What many people don’t seem to know is that the tennis team begins their practices well before school starts up again. Their practices will go all the way to the end of the season, and they go as follows: they practice every day of the week (as long as there isn’t a match that day), from 3-5 PM. In fact, Varsity had their first invitational on August 19th at Eisenhower. JV had their first match on August 25th at Warren Mott.

Although there are two separate teams, both teams train just as hard and work on improving their technique. According to Michael Federico, a player on the JV team, the teams usually practice together, run drills, and even have team traditions. Many of the players have been playing tennis for multiple years now, including the captains, Sam and Blair. Blair has been playing on the team for four years, and Sam has been playing for three.

Coach Wu gave some insight on the team itself. Although it is only his second year coaching Fraser’s team, he feels that he can see tremendous work being put into the game. “The team’s atmosphere has changed for the better, it is more of a family atmosphere rather than an individual person working for only themselves,” Wu said.

The Varsity team is ran by coach Franklin Wu. The JV coach is coach Carol Fistler.
