Lost and Found Total Value

Joe Bresso

Have you ever had the panic feeling that you’ve lost something while in your school? Well there is one place where almost all lost items go to and it’s the Lost and Found.

From Jewelry to a lone shoe I looked at how much the Lost and Found inventory was worth. Keep in mind these are rough estimations based on similar items.

With 13 pairs of glasses total all undamaged the total starts out at a huge $850 and will only get larger. I would be lying if I said that I never lost a pair of glasses since it’s easy to set them down and forget about them.

Next on the list are 4 backpacks that look new and their price has been calculated to $200 total. Now I can’t tell when these were lost but they look very new and unused so I would assume these were lost near the beginning of the year.

Something I was a little surprised at was that I found no electronics in the lost and found. That just goes to show how much people care for their own devices.

Now for one of the huge amounts I counted 17 jackets and hoodies bringing in another instance of $850 dollars bringing the total now to $1900 and that’s with no electronics being present in the lost and found.

To round out some small costs before the last and the biggest costs we see a football at $60, a very normal looking watch at $30, and a small purse at $30. All of those being very small in comparison to the next category

The final category of things that I found in the Lost and Found was Jewelry a lot of jewelry. I found 25 separate pieces of jewelry be it earrings, necklaces, rings, I found them all. This category was the hardest to price considering all the different pieces but what I came out to was an outrageous $1250 total bringing our final total to $3270.

I was surprised to find out that we had over 3k in our Lost and Found alone. Think about the fact that that will fluctuate up and down every day and every new school year as I found out that they donate everything at the end of the year.
