Fraser Shuts Out Dakota

May 4th marked one of the biggest games of the regular season for the Lady Ramblers. An on the road test against powerhouse Dakota. They delivered as coach Thaier Mukhtar expected. “I knew we could win this game if we played like we had early in the season and we did.”

Junior Kennedy Barr scored the only goal of the game with about nine minutes left off a penalty kick. This came as a change for the team as they’ve cost themselves a few games by giving up goals late in games. This is their first win in six games and it comes against a MAC White opponent. They tied four of their last five games and set themselves back a little in the race for a division title. With this win, they’re now back at the top of the MAC White division and now own a tiebreaker over Dakota.

Abby Moss played a huge role in last night’s victory with a key save late in the game that occurred minutes before Barr’s goal. This is now Moss’ fourth shutout of the year. She controlled the box well and was able to keep the Cougars’ at bay for most of the evening. Senior captains Gabby Anderson and Allison Kowalski both had tremendous games as well. Kowalski has been the team’s lockdown defender all year long and usually is set with the task of marking the opponent’s best player. That’s exactly what she did last night as she shutdown Dakota’s Anja Savich.

With the win, Fraser is now 2-0-2 in conference play and 6-2-4 on the year. They’re off until next Monday when they travel to Chippewa Valley (1-7-2) to take on the Big Reds’ in a MAC White contest. Dakota is now 2-1-1 in conference play and boasts a solid overall record of 7-3-2. The Cougars’ travel to Grosse Pointe North (10-1-2) next Monday where they’ll look to get back on track against a good conference opponent.
