Giving fans a hint of his debut album Mind of Mine, which is to be released March 25, artist Zayn released his third single “LIKE I WOULD” on March 10. Following his #1 hit “Pillowtalk” on Billboard’s “The Hot 100,” this pop/R&B style tune is directed toward his ex who found someone new, but he tells her that her new man will never be nearly as great as he was to her.

The former One Direction member begins the song with simply his voice and little instrumental background. Taking note of how his ex has easily moved on, he sings, “Guess you let it go, now you’re good to go / It’s cold-hearted, cold-hearted.” Often compared by critics to The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” the song progresses into a catchy chorus, and he sings, “If we can never go back / Thought you’d like to know that / He won’t touch you like I do / He won’t love you like I would.” In this, he addresses to his ex-girlfriend that even though she is with someone else now, it will not be the same as when she was with him. Furthermore into the song, he tells her that he still wants her, but if he is not what she wants, then he is done waiting for her: “So stop wasting all my time, messing with my mind / It’s cold-hearted, cold-hearted.” Moreover, all throughout the song, he tells her, “He don’t do you right / He won’t love you like I would / Love you like I would.”

Overall, with a hummable melody and topic many teens and adults can relate to, Zayn’s smooth tune is surely one for the dancefloor; no song will get people singing along like Zayn’s song would.
