Junior Kayla Cross has won a National Gold Medal in Scholastics Arts and Writing Awards for photography. Her piece, “Ascending”, was selected out of 227,000 arts and writing pieces sent for local competition.
According to photography teacher Roger Drabant, only about 400 student-submitted pieces have won the top award of gold nationally this year.
“It is an honor to be selected from the art teachers at Fraser High School to have a piece entered into Scholastics. It is absolutely unbelievable to be selected at a national level, especially at the Gold level, which is the best of the best,” Drabant said.
Kayla Cross will be the 11th National winner from Fraser High School in the last seven years.
“It is a huge accomplishment,” Drabant concludes.
