This past Sunday, the varsity dance team performed at The Palace of Auburn Hills at the Detroit Pistons vs New Orleans Pelicans game. Though the Pistons did not win, the night felt like the night of a champion for the dance team.

“This was our first time performing at a Pistons game,” said Alyssa Vodak, a senior on the dance team. “The guy who got everything together reached out to our coaches asking if we would be willing to perform. He saw our routine and thought it was really cool, so that was exciting.”

With Sunday being the team’s first time performing at a Pistons game, the dance team members had some butterflies in their stomach leading up to their performance.

“We were excited to perform in front of all of those people who attended, but we also had some pre performance jitters like always,” Vodak said.

Regardless of their pre performance butterflies, the girls still went out there and had the best time ever.

“As I was performing, what was going through my head was ‘Oh my gosh, this is so cool.’ ‘I am having so much fun,’” Vodak said.

However, as surreal as a performance at The Palace sounds, it does not come easy, for an opportunity like this requires rehearsal over time and choreography.

“For our jazz dance, which is the one we performed at the game, we get a choreographer over the summer to learn the dance. Until the end of the season, we work on this dance to perform at competitions and events like FHS basketball games and Pistons games too now!” Vodak said. “The choreographer comes up with the routine, and when it comes to the music, they talk with our coaches on picking a song. When it comes to football games, our coaches make our routines and mixes up.”

By the end of the night, the girls had an enjoyable time and hope to do something like this again in the future.

“It was overall a great experience, and I hope in future years that the Fraser varsity dance team will be able to do it again!” Vodak said.
