Sheppard has dropped a bomb on the music world

Zoie Bills, Flash Reporter

Can you imagine if the originality found in Gotye’s music had a love child with the passion brought to us by Aretha Franklin? That is what the world has found, in the band, Sheppard. The group’s foundation is made up of three Aussie siblings: George, Amy and Emma Sheppard along with Jay Bovino, Michael Butler and Dean Gordon. The band’s hit single, “Geronimo”, that first brought them to the U.S. is an upbeat tune about taking giant leaps. It is the missing soundtrack to every new chapter of your life: going off to college, a first date; you name it. Every track on their newest album, Bombs Away, delivers its own mishmash of vibes, vocals and instruments. My personal favorite, “A Grade Playa”, is directed to what Amy describes, an “a grade playa, a fighter, a hater.” You can hear her sing with anger while the instrumentals shift between diatonic harps and wall shaking bass. It seems that every song is different in its own way. To judge this band, you would have to listen to every word of every song. I’d recommend Bombs Away to anyone looking for unique, yet relatable music.
