Fraser High School has always been well-known for its outstanding music department. January 31st was the day for the District 16 Solo & Ensemble Festival and just recently on March 21st was the day for the State Solo and Ensemble Festival from the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. During the District Festival there was a total of 53 events that had been qualified, and there was a total of 51 events that participated in at the State Festival with five of them being chamber ensembles.

For sophomore, junior, and senior soloists, they competed in proficiency level that included performing their solo, memorizing scales, and sight reading new music. Aren’t the freshman soloists lucky that they don’t have to deal with that until next year? For proficiency ratings, a First Division is a score of 85 – 100 and a Second Division is a score of 70 – 84. A total of 41 events received First Division ratings while 10 events received Second Division ratings.
