As a senior in 1999, April Phillips broke the 126’8” discus record set by Kathie Burczynski in 1986. Then, Phillips went on to break her own record two more times her senior year at 133’8” and 139’6”

“Her junior year is where she really started to progress. Most discus throwers have a larger build; April was one of those true kids who do just shot put and discus,” said Coach Murray “Two year in a row –senior and junior year- she was all state in 3 events: shot-put, discus, and high jump.”

Under the Fraser record of Track and Field, Phillip’s name is still there holding the Fraser Discus and County Record of 139’6”. She set this record close to two decades ago at the age of fifteen.

Phillips will be inducted into the Michigan Women’s Track and Field Hall of Fame on January 16, 2015. Congratulations go out to her from Fraser.
